CONCERT PIANIST; COMPOSER 

EDUCATOR and CONDUCTOR

Peter Allen has continually delighted audiences with his artistry, versatility and mastery with music-making.  As a  concert pianist, he is often heard on CBC regional and national radio and is well known to audiences in the Maritimes and throughout Canada for his captivating interpretations. With two solo CD's to his credit, plans are in the works for a new release in 2010.


Peter  is Professor of Piano  at Dalhousie University's Department of Music, a post he has held since 2005. Also an active composer, he had the honour of being the only music composition finalist for the 2006 N.S. Lieutenant Governor's Masterworks Award for his orchestral work "Variations on the Halifax Explosion".


Peter is also a highly respected composer, teacher, and budding conductor.

He has fulfilled many commissions, the most recent by CBC for a piano concerto called "Hurricane Juan", world-premiered by Symphony Nova Scotia on their season’s opening concert with Peter as soloist on September 25th and 28th, 2008 in  Halifax, and again for St. Cecilia Concert Series in Lunenburg, NS. on October 3rd, 2008. The world premiere was broadcast on CBC Radio 2’s Sunday Afternoon in Concert nationally on September 28, 2008, the actual day of the 5th anniversary of the storm. 


Peter is an Associate Professor of the Canadian Music Centre (CMC), a member of SOCAN and a member of  The Living Composers Project.
