Pianist-composer Peter Allen stunned the audience with the ferocious brilliance and irresistible power of his CBC-commissioned Hurricane Juan Piano Concerto... there were surges of emotions expressed in the pulsing climaxes and ominous calms jointly created by piano and orchestra.... a picturesque work richly elaborated with luminous orchestration and follows the track of the storm faithfully... cinematic in scope.... episodic passages tumbled over one another like a mountain torrent with striking intuitive logic, keeping us on the edge of our seats with it's irresistible power... Allen's originality and mastery of both orchestration, piano writing and the playing of the work were impressive....
